Business Futures: Worker Ownership Conversions
Join Made in NYC partners SBIDC, BOCnet and The Working World to learn about how manufacturers can can sell their business to their employees. The Equitable Industrial Development (EqID) Initiative is a new City-supported partnership with local service providers that will help small business owners explore and execute the sale of their business to employees. Especially in the midst of the pandemic, employee ownership could help long-time business owners to retire while preserving critical jobs and stabilizing our communities—providing workers an opportunity to grow their wealth and building resilience against future economic challenges.

BIPOC women have played a vital role in shaping New York City’s fashion industry, whose long and storied history is rooted in the Garment District and spans all five boroughs. With the industry at a crossroads, we are facing critical questions about the future of the workforce. This panel will focus on the pathways towards a more equitable fashion industry, looking at innovative worker-ownership models and the role of homemaking before, during and post the COVID-19 pandemic.
